Still Got Time: The Shipping Advantage

Posted by Ryan Barbin, AKS on Oct 20th 2026

It’s 7:15 PM in Florida.

You’ve been working all day. You just diagnosed the last vehicle. You know exactly what you need to finish the job tomorrow.

There’s only one problem.

It’s 7:15 PM.

Sure, you can place the order. But chances are, that box isn’t going anywhere tonight.

Unless you order from Las Vegas.

While your workday is winding down on the East Coast, ours isn’t.

At American Key Supply, same-day shipping doesn’t cut off until 4:30 PM Pacific Time.

For a locksmith in New York, Atlanta, Philadelphia, or anywhere else on Eastern Time, that’s 7:30 PM.

Central Time?

6:30 PM.

Mountain?

5:30 PM.

And right here on the West Coast?

You’ve got until 4:30 PM.

That little three-hour difference on the clock can mean a very big difference in business.

You Don’t Need It Until You Need It

Inventory management would be incredibly easy if customers had the courtesy to tell you what they were going to need three days in advance.

They don’t.

The 3:00 PM call turns into the weird vehicle you weren’t expecting. The last remote on the shelf gets sold. You open a box and discover you’re one short.

The job requires something the customer failed to mention on the phone. Or you simply spend your day doing your job and don’t get around to replenishing inventory until late afternoon.

That’s locksmithing.

There’s a huge difference between placing an order today and shipping an order today.

At American Key Supply, we built our shipping window around giving you more time to do both.

The Overnight Shipping Loophole Nobody Talks About

Let’s say you absolutely need a part tomorrow.

You find it online and happily pay for Next Day Shipping.

Problem solved, right?

Not necessarily.

If that supplier’s same-day cutoff was two hours ago, you’ve just purchased overnight shipping on a package that isn’t leaving until tomorrow.

The carrier can’t deliver a box it doesn’t have. That’s why shipping speed isn’t just about UPS or FedEx.

A late cutoff means you can realize you need something later in the day, place the order later in the day, and still potentially get that package out the door that same day.

Suddenly, 4:30 PM isn’t just a shipping policy.

It’s buying you time.

7:25 PM

Let’s take this to the extreme.

You’re a locksmith on the East Coast.

It’s 7:25 PM.

You realize you need a smart key for tomorrow’s schedule.

If it’s in stock at American Key Supply, you’re still inside our same-day shipping window.

Think about that for a second.

You can be figuring out tomorrow’s jobs while plenty of businesses are figuring out what they’re having for dinner—and we’re still working to get your order out the door.

That’s a pretty useful three-hour time-zone difference.

But Getting It Out the Door Is Only Half the Equation

Fast fulfillment doesn’t mean much if getting the package to you costs a fortune. That’s why the other half of the equation matters:

Competitive Shipping Rates.

The goal isn’t to make you choose between getting what you need quickly and protecting the profit on the job you’re buying it for.

The smart key sitting in our warehouse isn’t making you money.

The smart key sitting in your van is.

The machine you’re waiting for can’t cut anything.

The programmer you haven’t received can’t program anything.

Every day a necessary product spends waiting to ship is another day before you can put that product to work.

Three Hours Can Be Worth More Than Three Hours

This is where I think people underestimate the value of a shipping cutoff. You’re not necessarily gaining three hours. You could be gaining a day.

Make the cutoff and the package potentially leaves today.

Miss it and the exact same package potentially leaves tomorrow.

Same product. Same locksmith. Same job.

One little difference on the clock.

In a business where the next phone call can turn into a few hundred dollars in revenue, an extra business day isn’t always a small thing.

Which brings us back to 7:15 PM in New York.

You diagnosed the vehicle.

You found what you need.

Tomorrow’s schedule is already filling up.

You look at the clock.

7:15.

Too late?

Not if you order with us!

You’ve Still Got Time.
